5 Enjoyable Things You Should Do While in Edmonton, AB
1) Visit West Edmonton Mall:
When you plan a trip, you probably don’t envision the local mall as being a key attraction.
But the West Edmonton Mall is not like other malls. It is in fact the largest mall in North America, and was the largest mall in the world until 2004. It still stands as the 10th largest mall in the world today.
The mall takes up over 48 city blocks and has something for everyone to enjoy, with over 800 shops, an indoor roller coaster, a water park with the world’s largest indoor wave pool, mini-golf, a penguin habitat, a casino, movie theaters, and more.
Adventure park meets retail therapy, meets fine dining and grown-up fun in this massive mall. Even if you are not a “shopper,” you won’t want to miss this mall.
2) Explore Fort Edmonton Park:
To get a taste of history, spend a day at Fort Edmonton Park, the largest living history museum in all of Canada. It is named for the first lasting European settlement in the area.
This living museum brings the area’s history to life, reaching all the way back to the aboriginal peoples who lived their long before European settlement. It uses both original and reconstructed historical structures, and during the summer it is staffed by live historical actors and interpreters in authentic costumes.
Take a step into the past by visiting this 158-acres park. Ride a genuine, working steam engine train, trot along in a horse-drawn carriage, or hop on the streetcars or catch an automobile, all located in appropriate eras within the park.
You’ve never experienced history quite like you will here!
3) Attend a Performance:
In a city so bursting with music and performing arts, you can’t pass up the opportunity to enjoy them.
The city is home to the Francis Winspear Centre for Music, known as one of the most acoustically perfect music halls in all of Canada. It houses the Edmonton Symphony Orchestra and is also home to the largest concert organ in the country.
The city is also home to the Citadel Theatre, composed of five halls each uniquely specialized for certain types of productions. And don’t forget the Northern Alberta Jubilee Auditorium, which functions as the main base for the city’s opera house.
4) Visit the Nature Parks:
One thing is for sure, you will have no shortage of parks to visit, and they are great parks, too!
Along the river valley itself is the longest stretch of urban parkland on the continent. There are parks of all sorts, from urban parks to campgrounds. The park system contains over 11 lakes, 14 ravines, and a total of 22 major parks with many biking and walking trails. Some of the trails hook up to the 146 mile-long Waskahegan Walking Trail.
During the winter, these parks are still put to excellent use, providing great land for cross-country skiing, ice skating, and even downhill ski slopes and sledding hills.
Elk Island National Park is also just a drive away. It has played a major role in protecting the American bison population and is one of the best places to see the bison up close. The park offers backcountry and regular camping, hiking and biking trails, canoeing and kayaking, windsurfing, and numerous other activities and festivals throughout the year.
5) Check Out the Festivals:
Edmonton has earned the nickname of “Canada’s Festival City” for its over 40 annual festivals.
At any given point in the year, you can probably find one to attend. They have music festivals of all sorts (including a Folk Music Festival, Bluegrass and Country Music Festival, and a Jazz Festival, just to list a few), film and theatre festivals, history and heritage festivals, art and food festivals, and too many others to list.
There are festivals truly all year long, every month of the year, even in January and February during the heart of winter.
With so much to do, there is something for everyone, and far more things than just 5 to find and enjoy.
Window tinting has become increasingly popular over the past few years. But let’s face it; there’s more to it than just controlling the amount of light in your car. No matter what make or model your vehicle is, a great tint substantially improves the aesthetics of your ride. But while some car owners get their windows tinted for cosmetic reasons, you’d be surprised just how many other benefits come with it. So if you’re considering getting a high-quality film applied to your car windows, here are 5 reasons to install window tinting.
1: Reduces Hazardous Glare
It’s no doubt that you’ve been driving for a while, so you know exactly what I’m talking about. But what you may not know is that sun glare is responsible for literally thousands of serious car accidents annually in the US. Take those statistics to a global scale and we’re talking millions of fender benders. That’s because even with advanced sun visors, the sun’s rays have an uncanny way of catching your eyes the wrong way. All it takes is just a few seconds of poor visibility and compromised vision to put you and other road users at risk. By installing window tinting, you effectively cut down over 90% of the sun’s glare and prevent scenarios where you can be blinded.
2: Reduces Interior Fading
Ask any car owner who parks their car in the sun all day long and they’ll give it to you straight. Heat and years of UV bombardment can turn even the most expensive upholstery into a frayed, faded mess. That’s because UV rays actively break down the chemical bonds in particular materials. And since the sun hits your interior from all angles, you can expect it to fade even quicker. The only way to keep your car’s upholstery looking young, colorful and vibrant for longer is to install high-quality window tinting. Some of these films actually block over 100% of UV rays and prevent it from wreaking havoc on your car’s interior.
Let’s be honest here guys, how cool does it look when you pull up to the scene in a sweet ride with a full black tint? Definitely a 10 on the awesome scale. But apart from adding appeal to your car, window tints actually play a much more crucial role. That’s right; in addition to keeping your vehicle cool and blocking out that annoying afternoon glare, a great tint will also keep prying eyes away from you and your valuables. Still not convinced that you need to tint your windows ASAP? Okay, then have a look at all the wonderful benefits that come with a good tint.
1: Shields your Eyes
It may come as a big surprise to you, but statistics actually show that sun glare is solely responsible for thousands of car accidents every year in the US. Reason being that even with your sun visor down, it’s still likely that the sun’s rays will catch your eyes the wrong way. And you know how it is with driving; all it takes is a few seconds of compromised vision to cause a massive pile up on the road. Window tinting effectively reduces over 90 percent of the sun’s glare and reduces any risk of being blinded.
2: Preserves Upholstery
Listen to this; the sun’s UV rays have a terrible knack of breaking down chemical bonds in certain materials. If there’s one thing that most drivers notice after years of driving and parking in the sun, it’s their seats fading and losing their color. Seeing that the sun gets in from all angles, most car interiors fade pretty quickly. Any driver looking to keep their vehicle’s upholstery young, vibrant and colorful for longer will have to get those windows tinted. Depending on what grade of tint you choose, you can block almost 100 percent of UV radiation and keep it from reaching your upholstery.
3: Keeps Things Cool
While a tinted car looks far cooler than an ordinary one, that’s not the cool we’re talking about here. If you’ve ever left your car out in the sun or just went for a drive on a hot day, then you know just how hot the interior can get. That’s all thanks to those UV rays that cause temperatures to skyrocket in closed cars; it’s only a matter of time until your dashboard starts to crack and the upholstery begins flaking. Additionally, excessive heat also causes chemicals in the seats to be released which is a very bad thing for all passengers. Tinting your windows not only helps reduce up to 80% heat, but it also increases the efficiency of your air conditioning.
4: Protects Glass
You might be wondering how a film of paper would make a difference when it comes to the integrity of glass. After all, the windows and glass in cars tend to shatter easily with the right impact. But it’s the fallout that can really be devastating. Too much impact causes glass to splinter and sends shards flying everywhere in the cabin. A thick tint of window film prevents your glass from shattering and splintering when it breaks by holding it together.
5: Protects your Valuables and Accessories
It’s common sense guys; you can’t steal what you can’t see. Thieves and crooks are always looking for an easy score, and they’ve found a gold mine by breaking and looting parked vehicles.
From laptops, cell phones, GPS screens, bags, purses, clothes, sound systems and pretty much anything in the car, all it takes is someone to pass by and spot all your valuables and accessories in one go. C’mon, why would you just leave an expensive gadget right in the open where a robber can’t resist? Installing dark window tints blocks out any prying eyes and guarantees that your valuables will be safe because no one will even know that they’re there. See, can’t steal what you can’t see.
6: Preserves Your Privacy
Don’t you just love that invincible feeling you get when you’re driving incognito? It’s like being in your very own bubble. Hey, everyone loves their privacy. Whether you usually drive around in some unsavory parts of town or prefer to keep a low profile, we won’t judge you for that. In fact, guarding the inhabitant's privacy was the main reason why window tints were invented in the first place. It’s also useful to note that window tinting has really helped a lot of women avoid carjackers that explicitly view women as weak and easy targets. But no matter who you are, there’s nothing more important on today’s treacherous roads as your privacy.
There you have it; just a few of the benefits of window tinting. If your windows are clear or just fitted with a light shade, make sure you get them tinted today and not a moment later. A great tint will save you money in cooling, keep your valuables safe, and protect you from harmful UV rays. So what are you waiting for?
